Recording: pupils

The beam of light from the pen light is played across the eyes of the animal, and changes in pupil size are noted. In the normal animal, the pupil should constrict when the beam is on it and then dilate back to normal when the light is removed. Sequential photographs can be used to monitor pupil size over an extended time. If the pupil is illuminated with infrared fight and infrared-sensitive film is used, recordings can be made in total darkness. Although this method was used in seminal studies of the pupillary light reflex and other dynamic applications,6 7 it is seldom used today because of the high cost of film, processing time, and limited temporal resolution. 

Pupil Examination. A meaningful evaluation of pupils after drug-induced mydriasis or miosis is impossible. Pupillary examination, including pupil size and responsiveness, should be undertaken before instilling mydriat-ics or miotics.The presence and nature of direct reflexes as well as the presence or absence of a relative afferent pupillary defect should be recorded. 

Thus here we aim to develop three types of skill in the pupil. These are (a) drawing skill (b) manipulative skill and (c) observational and recording skill.

For keeping a true and faithful record of practical work done by him each pupil is required to have a practical notebook. An effort be made to avoid printed note-books and plain note-books be encouraged. By using plain note-books teacher can make his students to follow any suitable method of keeping record of the experiment.
