Reciprocating feeder

The uranium trioxide feed passes to the reduction reactor by means of a reciprocating feeder. The dioxide product is metered in a suitable vessel after withdrawal from the reactor. A special type of poppet valve is used on these lines conveying solids. [Pg.218]

Track hoppers are needed for some boxcar and bottom-dump-car shipments. Since boxcars discharge to one side, fairly light construction can be used for the hoppers, which are located to one side of the tracks. However, for bottom-dump cars, the hoppers must be located on the centerline of the tracks. This requires heavy track girders over a hopper and feeder conveyor pit, but hopper depth must be set to give sufficient angle for material to flow well. Belts or reciprocating-plate feeders commonly carry the material to the bucket elevator. [Pg.1981]

A screw conveyor takes the comminuted raw material into a coaxial cylindrical chamber. On the left-hand side, this chamber features a reciprocating annular piston actuated hydraulically at a frequency of 120 strokes per minute to form a plug of compressed raw material serving as a pressure lock between the ambient atmosphere and the hydrolysis reactor. Due to its high frequency of operation, this feeder is likened to a machine gun. On the right-hand side, the chamber features a choke applying an adjustable pressure on the plug of raw material, and... [Pg.56]

E. Feeders. Conveyors work best with even, continuous feed. Salt is not simply dropped to a conveyor but is collected into a hopper and then delivered to the conveyor by a feeder. Also, when salt must be fed at a regulated or uniform rate over a short distance, a feeder may be used. Screw conveyors sometimes serve as feeders otherwise a specialized device is chosen. One type is the reciprocating plate feeder, mounted on wheels and driven by an eccentrically mounted rod. Speeds of60-70 strokes per minute are common. The salt moves forward with the plate, but at each retraction a certain amount falls from the end of the plate into a delivery chute. Electrically vibrated feeders are also used. These usually slope down at slight angles, typically 6-10°. Since the... [Pg.507]

Even the reciprocating-plate feeder, because of its rapid oscillation, is essentially a constant-feed device. Other types are intermittent. The gate-swing feeder and the undercut-gate feeder can have strokes timed, for example, to meet the buckets of an elevator. [Pg.508]
