Reciprocating compressor spare

As an alternative, used when the cost of the extra running does not warrant mechanical testing of both rotors, the spare rotor can be fitted to the case and only clearance measurements taken. This is philosophically similar to the reciprocating compressor bar over test. 

While not necessarily improving the reciprocating compressor s indi vidual reliability, using spared units does improve the overall plant reliability. With proper monitoring, the compressors may be removed from service in a timely manner for maintenance. If the program is properly administered, unplanned shutdowns can be avoided and a higher plant reliability achieved. 

The reliability of a reciprocating compressor is low, 92-95%, comparing to the reliability of screw or centrifugal compressor at 98-99.5%. [1] Therefore, a spare unit is required for a reciprocating compressor. 

Reliability Usually, centrifugal and OFS or OIS compressors are very reliable, arjd spare unit is usually not lequiied. Reciprocating compressor is not very reliabte, and usually a spare unit is required.
