The strategic objective of REBECCA has been to provide relevant scientific support for the implementation of the Water Eramework Directive (WED). The two specific aims of the project have been, first, to establish links between the ecological status of surface waters and physico-chemical quality elements and pressures from different sources, and, second, to develop and validate tools that Member States can use in the process of classification, in the design of their monitoring programmes, and in the design of measures in accordance with the requirements of the WED.

We also want to thank Cathy Brooks, Senior Content Project Manager, who did her usual miraculous job of coordinating the production of an incredibly complex project with grace and good humor. I finally would like to acknowledge the help and support of my wife, Catherine, and my children, Michelle, Edward, and Rebecca. Many precious hours were stolen from them during this project. Daddy has now stopped working at the computer screen, for the time being at least. I now hope to resume those long walks along Bray Head with the family, now that this work has finally come to fhiition. 

Model and assessment The implementation of this CL model has been done right after a workshop in the UA on the subject by Richard Felder and Rebecca Brent and their suggestions have been the first inspiration. A jigsaw model which included mandatory team projects was implemented, with The Three S s characteristics. 

NCSTRL http //www.ncstrl.org. The Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library was established around 1995 with funding from DARPA and it was intended to be a model for other digital libraries.
