Reading aloud prosody

Quite often, people who are reading aloud add their own prosody into the speech. By this we mean that when they read the words, they keep accurately to the word, but as the prosody is not eneoded in the text the reader makes up what they think is appropriate for this situation. It is if the reader is saying if 1 were saying this myself, what prosody would I use and then adding this into the speech.
