Reactivity of the Si- 3C Radicals Toward H2 Molecules

These experimental data point to the following free-radical chemical processes  [Pg.317]

The (=Si-)3C radicals in quartz glass are thermally stable at temperatures of the onset of homolytic decomposition of the C-H bonds in the (=Si-)3 C-H groups. Because of this, they can function as generators of atomic hydrogen (deuterium) in the H2 atmosphere. [Pg.317]

The C-H bond strength in the (=Si-)3C-H group is (100 + 2)kcal/mol. This estimate is based on the analysis of kinetic data on the formation and decay of these groups and also on the results of quantum-chemical calculations of model systems. [Pg.317]
