Rating Supervisors Performance in Safety

In many organizations, the supervisor continues to be the link between management and labor. Thus, the enforcement of safe work practices is in the hands of the supervisor. He/she must have knowledge of safety rules and participate in training programs to become better educated in departmental safety. [Pg.14]

Many organizations use injury totals as a means of measuring the safety performance of supervisors. If the department s injury totals decrease, the supervisor most likely has met the objectives and is rewarded. If the injury count goes up, the supervisor may not receive any additional compensation during the annual review. The problem with this one-dimensional system is that a supervisor could contribute next to nothing [Pg.14]

A good method of establishing annual safety objectives is by establishing safety tasks for the supervisor. [Pg.15]
