Quervain’s disease

De Quervain s disease—The tendon sheath of both the long and short abductor muscles of the thumb narrows. 

Musculoskeletal disorders are disorders of the muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, joints, cartilage and spinal discs not caused by slips, trips, falls, motor vehicle accidents or other similar accidents. Examples are carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff syndrome, De Quervain s disease, trigger finger, tarsal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, epicondylitis, tendinitis, Raynaud s phenomenon, carpet layers knee, herniated spinal disc, and low back pain. 

De Quervain s disease Tendons to the thumb are inflamed. Scarring of this tendon can lead to restricted motion of the thumb.

Radioiodine uptake can be used to test thyroid function, though technetium would be more usual. Scanning may be used for the identification of solitary nodules, and in the differential diagnosis of Graves disease from the less common thyroiditides (e.g. de Quervain s thyroiditis). In the latter, excessive thyroid hormone release caused by follicular cell damage can cause clinical and biochemical features of hyperthyroidism, but uptake is reduced.
