Pyrroles silver -catalyzed cyclization

Silver(I)-catalyzed cyclizations of substituted allenes to heterocydic ring systems induding 2,5-dihydropyrroles have been described previously [4,10]. Moreover, sil-ver(I) salts are known to form stable rr-complexes with terminal acetylenes [11]. On the other hand, on treatment with silver nitrate silylacetylenes were reported to afford silver acetylides [12]. Based on these considerations and additional experimental evidence [5,13], the following mechanism has been proposed forthe sUver(I)-mediated oxidative cydization of homopropargylamines to pyrroles ]5] (Scheme 15.3). 

Abstract An overview of recent transition metal-catalyzed syntheses of pyrroles and carbazoles is presented. The focus is on methods which have been applied to the preparation of biologically active namrally occurring pyrrole and carbazole alkaloids. For pyrroles, special attention is paid to silver(I)-catalyzed cyclization reactions. For carbazoles, iron(0)-mediated and palladium(0/ll)-catalyzed cychza-tion reactions are highlighted and their broad range of applications is discussed.

Intramolecular nitrogen attack in propargylated enaminones allows silver-catalyzed access to functionalized pyrroles. This Ag-promoted hydroamination can also be used to obtain A bridgehead pyrroles. Silver nitrate-mediated cyclization of allenylamines, available from Uthiated alkoxy allenes and imines or through reaction of l-(lV-carbamoyl)-alkylcuprates with propargyl substrates, provides access to 2,5-dihydropyrrole derivatives. Iminoallenes can be used for the synthesis of substituted p)moles in moderate yields in the presence of potassium carbonate. ...
