The preparation of polyamines directly from a monomer like pyridine has commercial interest because the resulting polymer would be a base resin with a potentially high capacity. Universal Oil has patented the process by which a polypyridine was made.41 Possible structures for pyridine polymers were proposed.42 The influence of Be2+ and Mg2+ was also studied.43... [Pg.175]

The polymers of alkylpyridines were covered in the previously cited patent on pyridine polymers.41 Formation of alkylbipyridyls was likewise covered in previous papers.26... [Pg.176]

The electrical conductivity and photoconductivity of metal polyynes have been studied in some detail. For instance, it has been demonstrated that in the unoxidized state 166 (M = Gu) is an insulator (cr= 10 Scm ) and, upon doping with I2, the conductivity is increased to 10 S cm Polyynes such as 165 (M = Ni, Pd, Pt L = E Bus E = P or As) can either be oxidized with nitric acid or doped with Measurements on undoped films showed low conductivity values of ca. 10 Scm which improved to ca. 10 Scm in the l2-doped samples." The Pt-acetylide pyridine polymers 188 showed conductivities of 2.5 x 10 Scm upon doping with iodine. Quaternization followed by iodine doping gave a similar value (3.4 x 10 S cm ). These values appear to be the highest reported for soluble polymetallaynes. [Pg.376]

Similar to the biguanide structures, Dizman et al. created l,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO)-based stmctures carrying two quaternary ammonium charges with butyl and hexyl alkyl extensions (C12). The monomer was assembled by multiple nucleophilic substitution reactions. Polymers were formed by free radical polymerization in water. These polymers, much like the biguanide acrylate and pyridinium polymers, combined hydrophobidty and cationic charge on the same monomer. One difference is that the cationic charge was also separated from the backbone of the polymer by a long alkyl chain. As with the pyridine polymers, the hexyl alkyl monomers were found to be the most effective biocides. [Pg.305]

The deposition of vinyl pyridine polymers initiated by the action of dihalides in the pores of hollow fibers having less than 100 A radius leads to ion exchange surfaces which can readily transfer ions according to the Donnan formulations i.e., the concentration gradient of a pump ion can be used to transfer another ion across the membrane wall against the latter s concentration gradient. [Pg.248]
