The head, H (m), developed across the pump at speed N (rps), is related to the volume flow Q (m /s) by equation (17.28)  

Equation (17.28) may be recast in terms of pressure rise across the pump, App, and mass flow, W, by using the relations H = vt pp/g and Q = vW  

Meanwhile the backward characteristic with / = 0 will apply, i.e. equation (19.42), repeated below  

Equations (19.65) and (19.42) are two simultaneous equations which may be solved for the two unknowns, Woj and poj. This is a straightforward matter when the pump head/flow characteristic may be represented
