Pulmonary thromboembolism clozapine

Cardiovascular Clozapine, which is close related to olanzapine, has been implicated as an independent susceptibility factor for pulmonary embolism [SEDA-28, 65]. A possible association between olanzapine and pulmonary thromboembolism has also been described [SEDA-32,102]. New cases have been reported [97", 98" ]. [Pg.108]

Cardiovascular Clozapine has been associated with venous thromboembolism. The mortality rate associated with pulmonary embolism has been estimated to be about 28 times higher than in the general population of similar age and sex it is not clear whether pulmonary embolism can be attributed to clozapine or some characteristic of its users [SEDA-28, 65]. A new case of pulmonary embolism has been reported [76 ]. [Pg.104]

A review of thromboembolism with antipsychotics found an overall increase in risk [34 ]. The risk, including pulmonary embolism, was greafest with low-potency FGAs (chlorpromazine, thiordazine) and clozapine. Limited data suggested also an increased risk but smaller for olanzapine, risperidone, sertindole and high-potency FGAs (haloperidol). [Pg.61]
