Psychological healing

It is used in the treatment of scurvy, postoperative cases, and healing bedsores and chronic leg ulcers. Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron during anemia and is frequently combined with ferrous salts. It is used in urinary tract infections to acidify urine. Large doses of vitamin C have been tried to cure everything from the common cold to cancer, with not much success. The usefulness of vitamin C in asthma, cancer, atherosclerosis, psychologic symptoms, and fertility is doubtful. Ascorbic acid is well tolerated in large doses and may cause rebound scurvy on withdrawal. There is a possibility of forming urinary stones.

The physical healing I experienced from that trip was amazing. Serious muscle tensions had been completely released. I was more in tune with my body as a result of the mushroom medicine. Psychological fears and habits that I had carried with me for years were healed. The visions I had experienced were enough to keep my imagination and intellect busy for years. 

In many traditional cultures, illness is believed to be caused by psychological conflicts or disturbed social relationships that upset an equihbrium which is expressed in the form of physical or mental problems (33). Although Africa has a diverse culture, there is a common thread that follows that the disraption of this equilibrium, what we call illness, may be caused by external psychological or spiritual factors, or both, that relate to African cosmology and "threaten the intactness of the person" 34). In traditional cultures, then, healing involves restoring this equilibrium.
