Pseudotropine benzoate

Hyoscyamine (duboisine) and the racemate atropine are mACh-R antagonists and a number of atropine derivatives also have this property, namely anisodamine (6P-hydroxyhyoscyamine), 7 (3-hydroxyhyoscyamine, hyoscine (6,7-epoxyhyoscyamine or scopolamine), benzoyltropein (tropine benzoate), littorine (tropine a-hydroxyphenylpropionate), tigloidine (pseudotropane tiglate) and tropacocaine (pseudotropine benzoate). The further derivatives apoatropine (a-dehydrohyoscyamine) and tropine are very toxic.

A large number of new tropanyl esters and other related compounds have been prepared, with the purpose of contributing further structure-pharmacological activity relationships. Inter alia, para-substituted tropanyl benzoates (for studies of the substrate specificity of atropine esterase), benzazocines (narcotic antagonists) from 6-hydroxytropinone, 5-aryl-furan-2-carboxylic esters of pseudotropine (local anaesthetics), 2,4,5-trimethylpyrrole-3-carboxylic acid... 

The bark of Erythroxylum ellipticum, a tall Australian tree that reaches a height of 35 feet, contains 0.32% crude alkaloids, from which tropine 3,4,5-trime-thoxycinnamate and tropine benzoate have been isolated (83). These alkaloids are derivatives of tropine (3a-hydroxytropane), thus differing from cocaine-type alkaloids in that the latter are pseudotropine (3)ff-hydroxytropane) derivatives.
