Protein antigenic structures comparison

E. C. (1988b). Incorporation of the major outer membrane protein of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in saponin-Upid complexes (Iscoms) Chemical analysis, some structural features, and comparison of their immunogenicity with three other antigen delivery systems, Inf. Immun., 56, 432-438. [Pg.324]

Figure 1. Available amino acid sequences for the four human IgG subclasses. Numbering system is that of the IgGl protein shown, Eu (Edelman et aL, 1969). The IgG2 sequence is from Wang and Fudenberg (1972), the IgG3 sequence from Wolfenstein-Todel et al. (1976) and Michaelsen et al. (1977), and the IgG4 sequence from Pink et al. (1970). Intersubclass comparisons show primary structure differences of less than 10%, so all antigenic determinant distinctions seen must be accommodated within this degree of covalent structure difference. Structural correlates for the common determinants (i.e., IgG class-specific determinants) should be both more numerous and easier to specifically identify than others (e.g., subclass-specific or allotype-related determinants).
