Protection general aspects

Barrier creams are generally considered to be less protective than gloves in reducing the penetration of solvents. In a human study using bioengineering techniques to assess skin reactions, it was found that the barrier creams studied did not affect the irritant properties of toluene (Frosch and Kurte 1994). General aspects of barrier creams were recently reviewed and are also discussed elsewhere in this volume (Lachapelle 1996 see also Chap. 62 by Wigger-Alberti and Eisner). 

Colorimetry. Laboratory data on the persistence of biocides formulated in glutaraldehyde and acrolein are available [1260]. A colorimetric general aldehyde detection method based on m-phenylenediamine was used. Such studies follow the demand for better understanding of ecologic systems in the aspect of environmental protection.
