PROPOSED BUT NOT YET REALIZED COMBINATIONS OF LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY AND MASS spectrometry 

Several workers have considered the solution of the problems that arise with the on-line combination of LC and MS. These problems (Section 1.2) can be approached 

Futrell et al. applied three different techniques to evaporate substances of low volatility in a controlled manner and to cope with the cooling effects that arise when the liquid jet expands on entering the mass spectrometer  

Up to now, all realized LC-MS combinations have the limitation that they can be used only for substances with a reasonable degree of volatility. For ion- 

Habfast and Kaufmann and Schulten and Beckey proposed field desorption as an ionization method when applying MS in combination with LC, It would have great advantages, as field desorption is a good ionization mode for many classes of substances, such as sugars, amino acids, peptides, salts and nucleosides.
