Propargyl alcohols substitutions

By using dimethylformamide or benzonitrile as an electrophile after the awfi-carbomag-nesiation of propargylic alcohols, substituted furans 59 are obtained by treatment with p-TsOH (Scheme 34) 4... [Pg.648]

A number of processes catalyzed by the dithiolate-bridged species have been mentioned already however, the extensive reactivity of alkynes within these systems has led to a number of more recent reports on their use in catalysis. The allenylidene complex 363 (R = Tol, R = Me 864 salt) has been identified as an intermediate in the catalysis of propargylic alcohol substitution reactions with alcohols in high yields and with complete regioselectivities... [Pg.688]

Pyrrole derivatives are prepared by the coupling and annulation of o-iodoa-nilines with internal alkynes[291]. The 4-amino-5-iodopyrimidine 428 reacts with the TMS-substituted propargyl alcohol 429 to form the heterocondensed pyrrole 430, and the TMS is removed[292]. Similarly, the tryptophane 434 is obtained by the reaction of o-iodoaniline (431) with the internal alkyne 432 and deprotection of the coupled product 433(293]. As an alternative method, the 2,3-disubstituted indole 436 is obtained directly by the coupling of the o-alky-nyltrifluoroacetanilide 435 with aryl and alkenyl halides or triflates(294]. [Pg.186]

Furthermore, Jana et al. developed a FeCl3-catalyzed C3-selective Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles, using allylic, benzylic, and propargylic alcohols in nitromethane as solvent at room temperature. This method can also be used for the alkylation of pyrrole (Scheme 4). The reactions were complete within 2-3 h without the need of an inert gas atmosphere leading to the C-3-substitution product exclusively in moderate to good yields [20]. [Pg.5]

Friedel-Crafts reaction remains unexplored, possibly due to the difficulty of the cycloalkyne formation. A mild, versatile, and efficient method for the one-step synthesis of substituted dihydro- and tetrahydroisoquinolines has been developed by the FeCl3-6H20-catalyzed intramolecular allenylation/cyclization reaction of benzylamino-substituted propargylic alcohols, representing the first example of the intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction of propargylic alcohols (Scheme 8) [24, 25]. FeCls, InCls, and Yb(OTf)3 also exhibit good catalytic activity for the reaction. [Pg.7]

This study demonstrates that the addition of the 2-diazopropane with the triple bond of propargyl alcohols is regioselective, and affords new antibacterial 3H-pyrazoles. The photochemical reaction of these 3H-pyrazoles selectively leads to a- and 6-hydroxy cyclopropenes. The overall transformation constitutes a simple straightforward route to substituted cyclopropenyl alcohols without initial protection of the propargyl alcohol hydroxyl group. [Pg.148]

LBADH also catalyzed the asymmetric reduction of a broad variety of differently substituted acetylenic ketones, including aromatic alkynones and a number of aliphatic derivatives [71]. For example, methyl alkynones bearing an aromatic unit attached to the triple bond were reduced to the corresponding (7 )-propargylic alcohols with >99% ee. Similarly, alkylsilyl-substituted... [Pg.151]

Aryl furans were prepared in moderate yields by Rh-catalyzed regioselective hydroformylation of substituted propargylic alcohols followed by cyclization, and an example is shown below <06ASC545>. [Pg.184]

Substituted allenyl cations 47 have been generated from propargyl alcohols 48 under stable carbocation conditions (Sbf s/f SOsII in SO2CIF) (equation 17). On the basis of 13C-NMR chemical shifts, the positive charge has been found to be extensively delocalized with the mesomeric allenyl cations contributing highly to the total ion structure36,37. [Pg.881]

The Cu(I)-catalyzed cyclization for the formation of ethyl ( )-tetrahydro-4-methylene-2-phenyl-3-(phenylsulfonyl)furan-3-carboxylate 82 has been accomplished starting from propargyl alcohol and ethyl 2-phenylsulfonyl cinnamate. Upon treatment with Pd(0) and phenylvinyl zinc chloride as shown in the following scheme, the methylenetetrahydrofuran 82 can be converted to a 2,3,4-trisubstituted 2,5-dihydrofuran. In this manner, a number of substituents (aryl, vinyl and alkyl) can be introduced to C4 <00EJO1711>. Moderate yields of 2-(a-substituted N-tosyIaminomethyl)-2,5-dihydrofurans can be realized when N-tosylimines are treated with a 4-hydroxy-cis-butenyl arsonium salt or a sulfonium salt in the presence of KOH in acetonitrile. The mechanism is believed to involve a new ylide cyclization process <00T2967>. [Pg.147]

An important variant for transition metal-catalyzed carbon-nitrogen bond formation is allylic substitution (for reviews, see1,la lh). Nucleophilic attack by an amine on an 7r-allyl intermediate, generated from either an allylic alcohol derivative,2 16,16a 16f an alkenyloxirane,17-19,19a-19d an alkenylaziridine19,19a 19d, or a propargyl alcohol derivative,21,21a 21d gives an allylic amine derivative. [Pg.695]

The acyclic version of Larock s heteroannulation was successfully applied to the synthesis of highly substituted pyridines [166]. The annulation of rert-butylimine 210 with phenyl propargyl alcohol produced pyridine 211 regioselectively in excellent yield. The regiochemistry obtained was governed by steric effects. Furthermore, the choice of imines was crucial to the success of the heteroannulations. terr-Butylimine was the substrate of choice, since all other imines including methyl, isopropyl, allyl and benzyl imines failed completely to produce the desired heterocyclic products. [Pg.225]

Substituted propargylic alcohols were found to undergo direct carbonylation to the corresponding butenolides in 67-98% yield (Eq. 9.120) [86]. This reaction requires a catalytic amount of Pd2(dba)3-CHC13 (4%) and l,4-bis(diphenylphosphi-no)butane (8%) in CH2C12 under an atmosphere of CO (600 psi) and H2 (200 psi) at 95 °C for 36 h. The cyclocarbonylation reaction is believed to proceed via an allenyl-palladium intermediate, which is formed by initial insertion of Pd(0) into the C-O bond of the alkynol followed by rearrangement (Scheme 9.25). [Pg.562]

In addition to the sulfur-substituted enyne-allenes depicted in Schemes 20.18-20.20, the sulfoxide 141 was prepared by treatment of the enediynyl propargylic alcohol 108 with benzenesulfenyl chloride to induce a [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement (Scheme 20.29) [10]. The Myers-Saito cyclization of 141 occurs at 37 °C with a half-life of only 16 min. [Pg.1109]

Metal-catalyzed substitution reactions involving propargylic derivatives have not been studied in much detail until recently [311, 312]. In this context, the ability shown by transition-metal allenylidenes to undergo nucleophilic additions at the Cy atom of the cumulenic chain has allowed the development of efficient catalytic processes for the direct substitution of the hydroxyl group in propargylic alcohols [313]. These transformations represent an appealing alternative to the well-known and extensively investigated Nicholas reaction, in which stoichiometric amounts of [Co2(CO)g] are employed [314-317]. [Pg.197]
