Propagation of Impulses in the Guinea Pig Ureter

Each compartment is perfused by means of a peristaltic pump at a rate of 1 ml/min with oxygenated Krebs solution at 34 °C. [Pg.140]

Electrical field stimulation is applied to either compartment by means of two wire platinum electrodes positioned in parallel with the two sides of the ureter. Square wave pulses (5-25 ms pulse width, 20 V) are automatically delivered every 100 s by means of a GRASS S88 stimulator. [Pg.140]

Drags are applied by superfusion at the middle site. Amplitudes of contraction are recorded. [Pg.140]

Values are calculated as mean SEM. Statistical analysis is performed by means of Student st-test or by means of analysis of variance. [Pg.140]

Shuba MF (1977) The effect of sodium-free and potassium-free solutions, ionic current inhibitors and ouabain on electro-physiological properties of smooth muscle of guinea pig ureter. J Physiol 264 837-851 [Pg.140]
