Project-induced

Finally there are project-induced TA studies which, as a rule, are based on a concrete case. In this connection, questions of location of airp>orts, power plants, and the like should be recalled. [Pg.406]

Measurements of Stark splittings in microwave and radiofrequency spectra allow tliese components to be detennined. The main contribution to tire dipole moment of tire complex arises from tire pennanent dipole moment vectors of tire monomers, which project along tire axes of tire complex according to simple trigonometry (cosines). Thus, measurements of tire dipole moment convey infonnation about tire orientation of tire monomers in tire complex. It is of course necessary to take account of effects due to induced dipole moments and to consider whetlier tire effects of vibrational averaging are important. [Pg.2442]

Penicilloic acid 5, the substrate for the projected lactamization reaction, could be derived from the suitably protected intermediate 6. Retrosynthetic disassembly of 6, in the manner illustrated, provides D-penicillamine hydrochloride (7) and tert-butyl phthalimido-malonaldehydate (8) as potential building blocks. In the synthetic direction, it is conceivable that the thiol and amino groupings in 7 could be induced to converge upon the electrophilic aldehyde carbonyl in 8 to give thiazolidine 6 after loss of a molecule of water. [Pg.45]

It was projected that compound 13 could be stereoselectively linked, through its free phenolic hydroxyl group, with the anomeric carbon of intermediate 12 under suitably acidic conditions (see Scheme 8). Gratifyingly, the action of boron trifluoride etherate on a mixture of 12 and 13 in CH2CI2 at -50 °C induces a completely stereoselective glycosidation reaction, providing the desired a-ano-mer 48 in an excellent yield of 95 % from 46. It is presumed that boron trifluoride initiates cleavage of the anomeric trichloroacetimi-... [Pg.537]

Although mast cells and basophils probably account for >90% of stored histamine in the body, histamine is also present in platelets, enterochromaffin-like cells, endothelial cells, and neurons. Histamine can act as a neurotransmitter in the brain. Histaminergic nerves have their cell bodies within a very small area of the brain (the magnocellular nuclei of the posterior hypothalamus) but have axons in most areas of the forebrain. There is also evidence for axons projecting into the spinal (Fig. 1) cord. Finally, there is evidence that histamine synthesis can be induced in tissues undergoing rapid tissue growth and repair. In certain neonatal tissues (e.g. liver), the rate of synthesis of this unstored diffusable histamine (termed nascent histamine) is profound and may point to a role for histamine is cell proliferation. [Pg.588]

If the surface over which the fluid is flowing contains a series of relatively large projections, turbulence may arise at a very low Reynolds number. Under these conditions, the frictional force will be increased but so will the coefficients for heat transfer and mass transfer, and therefore turbulence is often purposely induced by this method. [Pg.75]

Ocean-Atmosphere Interactions. To determine how the ocean responds to a C02-induced climate forcing, it will be necessary to develop a combined ocean and atmospheric general circulation model. It will take 10-20 years to develop a model with appropriate chemistry and biology to the level of confidence necessary to make valid projections. In the interim, two approaches can be pursued in parallel with this model development. [Pg.408]
