Programmes healthcare improvement

Healthcare organizations and the professionals affiliated with them should make continually improved patient safety a declared and serious aim, by establishing patient safety programmes with defined executive responsibility. 

The second edition of this book is very different from the first, reflecting developments in both the field and my own understanding. In 20051 was able to write that most safety improvement programmes were, to my mind, rather haphazard and without defined direction or purpose. That was true then, but no longer. The entire second half of this book discusses how healthcare can be made safer and contains a host of examples and illustrations of improvements to the safety and quality of care.
