Production structural levers

Experience shows that adopting the principles of lean manufacturing from assembly industries can be a powerful operational improvement lever. Lean management, first introduced by Toyota, appeals because it holds out a promise no other approach can make not only does it cut costs and improve quality, but it also stabilizes operations and matches supply with demand. A companywide lean transformation program structured around the improvement of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) may unearth a hidden capacity that is equivalent to adding another plant to the manufacturing network. Lean, however, should not only be applied in production, but across the entire value chain. 

Regarding the role of ATP hydrolysis, our QM/MM analysis " and classical PMF simulations for the active site indicated clearly that the hydrolysis product preferentially stabilizes the closed configuration of the active site. Since the active site closure is structurally coupled to converter rotation, the hydrolysis product indirectly stabilizes the pre-powerstroke orientation of the converter/lever arm. The preference of the closed configuration by the hydrolysis product also helps prevent premature release of Pj, which is believed to be the driving force for powerstroke. ... 

Abstract This chapter presents a framework for sustainable operations of food supply chains. A case study approach is used. The data were collected using exploratory interviews and through a structured questionnaire. The sustainable food supply chain involves operational levers of robustness, transparency, traceability and information flow and performance measure for monitoring and control of day-to-day operations for efhciency, flexibility, responsiveness and product quality. New product development, research and development, productivity improvement, entrepreneurial orientation, quality control and conducive policy support across key stages of production, procurement, processing, distribution and consumption of the dairy supply chain emerge as key elements of the sustainable framework.
