Production process injection molding

In short, compared to other production processes, injection molding demands more of part and mold designers—experimentation after the mold is built is expensive in terms of time and money. Injection-molding simulation is relatively inexpensive in terms of project cost and offers great benefits to those using it early in the manufacturing process. 

We routinely manufacture polycarbonate products by injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and thermoforming. Injection molding is the most common processing technique. 

The choice of the process depends, inter alia, on the requirements of the end product with injection molding, narrower tolerances can be achieved than with thermoforming or rotomolding, for example. The nature of the polymer also plays a role it depends, for instance, on the stability of the polymer at the high temperatures in a process. The length of the rubbery region on the temperature scale determines the ease of vacuum forming too brittle a polymer is difficult to machine, for example. 

Injection molding is one of the processing techniques for converting thermoplastics, and recently, thermosetting materials, from the pellet or powder form into a variety of useful products. Forks, spoons, computer, television, and radio cabinets, to mention just a few, are some of these products. Simply, injection molding consists of heating the pellet or powder until it melts. The melt is then injected into and held in a cooled mold under pressure rmtil the material solidifies. The mold opens and the product is ejected. The injection molding machine must, therefore, perform essentially three functions ... 

This book will be concerned mostly with designing products for injection molding, but, before continuing,we should etminder some of the other plastic processing method used.
