Production of the Elements by Heavy Ion Accelerators

To date, in the chemical experiments with TAEs, the targets have been certain isotopes of the actinoids Th to Cf, while stable isotopes of elements C to Ca have served as the projectiles. An optimal energy of the beam particles is slightly above the repulsive Coulomb barrier between the nuclei to be fused. Namely, it is about 5 to 6 MeV per nucleon of the projectile in the laboratory system the corresponding velocity of the particles is about one-tenth of the speed of light.
