5 Production of Highly Pure Organic Alkali (Tetramethylammonium Hydroxide) 

As an example, when X is Cl , the amount of Cl- in 20-30% tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution (product) is reported to be below lOppb. When cations, Ag+, Al3+, Au2+, Ba2+, Ca2+, Cd2+, Cr3, Cu2+, Fe3+, K+, Li+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Na+, Ni2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ are analyzed by chromatography, IPC-MS or atomic absorption spectrometry, trace amounts of Ba2+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ only are detected and the other cations are not detected.61,152 High purity such as this cannot be achieved by any other organic synthetic methods, i.e., only a membrane electrolysis method can achieve it.
