High line speeds The attractiveness of film and sheet products depends on their low costs, which is determined pardy by line speeds. Processing aids can allow higher line speeds without their own costs negating the overall process savings that are gained. [Pg.182]

Lamination is a fabrication process in which various materials such as paper, aluminum foil and polymer film are joined together. Contrary to the coextrusion technique, the materials are joined in the solid phase. The multilayer structure combines the properties of the components. Adhesion between the different substrates is accomplished by means of solvent-based or water-based glues. Lamination lines are operated at high line speeds. Typical applications include foodpackaging, pharmaceuticals and flexible packaging of industrial products. [Pg.155]

Figure 8.35 illustrates clearly that the pultrusion process is the preferred choice for the production of profiles with small circumference at high line speeds. In contrast, the reachable line speeds with a CCM press are lower, but independent of the profiles shape. That means that profiles with a huge circumference can be produced as fast as those having a smaller circumfer-... [Pg.238]

Wire and Gable. PVC has been used in wire and cable appHcations since World War II, when the U.S. Navy demanded lower combustibiUty materials in constmction. These products are manufactured by cross-head extmsion, usually from pellet compounds on single-screw extmders. Some line speeds are 1524 m (5000 ft) per minute (60 mph). The compounds are optimized for the requirements, including low temperature flexibiUty, high use temperature, especially low combustibiUty, weatherabiUty, and high resistance to cutthrough. [Pg.508]

The small-spiral-large-sbaft type (Fig. ll-60b) is inserted in a solids-product line as pipe banks are in a fluid line, solely as a heat-transfer device. It features a thin burden ring carried at a high rotative speed and subjected to two-sided conductance to yield an estimated heat-transfer coefficient of 285 W/(m °C) [50 Btu/(h fU °F)], thereby ranking thermally next to the sheU-fluidizer type. This device for powdered solids is comparable with the Votator ol the fluid field. [Pg.1094]

Line speed. Validation must be performed at least at normal production line speed. If testing is limited to any one speed, however, validation of the equipment will have to be first repeated before production operation with equipment operating at higher or lower speeds. It is therefore advised to perform testing at both extremes of production speeds (high and low). [Pg.649]

To gain productivity, higher line speeds are practiced. Silicone suppliers have to deliver silicone systems which cure faster while providing the same high coverage standards and process properties. The consequence of higher coating speeds is the formation of mist. [Pg.706]
