Other firms specified in Appendix B engage in several businesses of a fully integrated pharmaceutical company, but not in all of them. In the northeastern United States there is Albany Molecular Research in the Midwest near Chicago there is MediChem Research. Both companies offer traditional and modem medicinal chemistry, custom synthesis, and process research and development, among other services. Abbott Laboratories, itself a fipco, also acts as an outsourcer. It offers its services in chemical development and in making advanced intermediates, custom organic chemicals, and peptides. [Pg.92]
