Procedure 3.6.a UV-Visible Spectroscopic Analysis of

Safety warning Operations set off between the lines must be performed in a fume hood. 

Caution pyridine (py) should be used in the hood. Avoid contact with skin. Py can cause sterility in males. Wear goggles and gloves. Clean up spills immediately. 

Quantitatively prepare 5 ml solutions of 0.015 M brown [Ni(salpd)] and pyridine (py) in CHC13. 

Obtain visible spectra from 450-900 nm. Determine the molar absorptivities at 600 nm. 

Add a small amount of green [Ni(salpd)] to CHC13 and to DMSO. Record observations.
