Problem Jet Fuel Fails JFTOT

Under the high temperature conditions of the JFTOT procedure, olefinic compounds could undergo polymerization-type reactions to form high-molecular-weight materials. These heavier compounds can foul and deposit onto the rating tube or filter screen. Tube darkening and/or filter screen plugging can result. 

Jet fuel specifications are written to limit the amount of aromatic compounds as well as naphthalenes. However, it is possible that JFTOT failure can still occur if the aromatics present contain reactive side chains. Cycloparaffinic side groups or
