Preventing human errors and promoting error recovery

5 Preventing human errors and promoting error recovery 8.2.5.1 Personnel-related measures [Pg.105]

Personnel-related measures to reduce the frequency of human errors and promote safe behaviour include personnel selection, education and training, and safety campaigns and performance feedback (Salvendy, 1987, Sanders and McCormick, 1992). There are three main objectives of the personnel-related counter-measures  [Pg.105]

Performance feedback is based on behaviour theory. To improve the proportion of safe acts, it applies mutually agreed targets on safe behaviour and feedback to the workers to information about their actual performance. We will come back to this method in Section 18.2. [Pg.106]

It is also important to provide for an error-tolerant environment that makes it easy for the operator to observe, trace and correct errors before it is too late. There are certain design principles that promote error recovery (Kontogiannis, 1999)  [Pg.106]

Observable and transparent, i.e. errors are easily detected throngh appropriate and immediate feedback  [Pg.106]
