Prepolymer hand processing

This process provides a prepolymer with a narrow molecular weight distribution, but the mean molecular weight can be varied over a wide range, and the process may also be adjusted to achieve various microstructures (cis, trans, and vinyl). On the other hand, prepolymers prepared by the free radical initiation technique generally exhibit a broad molecular weight range and a somewhat branched structure. [Pg.135]

Before the prepolymer preparation, it is important to confirm that the polyols used have a low water content, e.g., less than 0.02% and a low pH value in order to prevent gelation in the prepolymer preparation. Table 23 shows rigid urethane-foam formulation by the semi-prepolymer process for obtaining a 30-kg/m density foam by hand mixing. [Pg.75]

PIC is a precast and cured portland cement concrete that has been impregnated with a monomer that is subsequently polymerized in situ. This type of cement composite is the most developed of polymer-concrete products. PCC, on the other hand, is a modified concrete in which a part (10%-15% by weight) of the cement binder is replaced by a synthetic organic polymer. It is produced by incorporating a monomer, prepolymer-monomer mixture, or a dispersed polymer (latex) into a cement-concrete mix. To effect the polymerization of the monomer or prepolymer-monomer, a catalyst (initiator) is added to the mixture. The process technology used is very similar to that of conventional concrete. So, unlike PIC which has to be used as a precast structure, PCC can be cast-in-place in field applications. PC can be described as a composite that contains polymer as a binder instead of the conventional portland cement. [Pg.764]

In the quoted study, it was foimd that the polysulfone was initially miscible with the cyanate prepolymer and phase separates into spherical domains during the course of the cyanate polymerization process. The flexural modulus was not significantly modified by the thermoplastic/organoclay addition. On the other hand, the fracture toughness was slightly improved with the addition of polysulfone and clay to the cyanate. [Pg.1477]

On the one hand, it can be concluded that the lactide synthesis is straightforward in the sense of making a prepolymer and releasing lactide by thermal catalytic depolymerization at low pressure. On the other hand, it can be concluded that the scale-up from a lab-scale process to an economical, large-scale process with high yield and no compromises on stereochemical purity is a complex multifaceted task. [Pg.17]
