Preparedness and Coordination

Another important aspect of the planning phase is preparation for sampling, which may include some or all of the following actions  [Pg.87]

These premobilization activities take place not long before the project is mobilized to the field. Premobilization activities require a great deal of organizational skills and, depending on the project scope, may take several days. The most important issues in premobilization planning are communications with the field crews and, thoughtful, systematic, efficient preparation. [Pg.87]

The analytical laboratory is an important but often overlooked member of the project team good communications with the laboratory are essential for the project success. The laboratory that conducts analysis of project samples will usually provide the sample containers, coolers for shipping samples, and the packing materials. The laboratory should have as much advanced notification as possible to prepare the appropriate containers and ship them to the sampling crew. After the sampling containers have been received, a member of a sampling crew should verify that the quantities and preservation chemicals are correct and meet the SAP requirements. [Pg.87]

The laboratory must also know the project schedule for internal planning of incoming samples. It is particularly important when expedited turnaround time of analysis is required. Any last minute change in the sampling and analysis design or in the project schedule should be always communicated to the laboratory. [Pg.87]

If the laboratory does not provide the sampling containers, a member of the project team should identify the vendors and purchase the containers that meet the SAP requirements. Obtaining proper field sampling equipment and supplies is usually a responsibility of the sampling crew. This may constitute an extensive list ranging from bailers and hand augers to such mundane but vital items as pens and shipping tape. [Pg.87]
