The preparation of ultra-pure solvents has been thoroughly dealt with by Hauqjel [29]. He points out that besides extraction, distillation is still one of the most effective methods of purifying solvents up to 99.9%. With alcohols, ether, benzene, pyridine and a number of hydrocarbons extremely high degrees of purity can be attained, e.g., 10 % absorbing impurities in carbon tetrachloride.
