Preliminary risk analysis PRA

PreUminary risk analysis defines the Equipment Under Control (EUC), its limits, its environment, all modes of operation, the dangers and risks associated with the equipment and its control system. An inventory of risk is established and the risks that are covered by the system are confirmed. In our case, it was initially decided [Pg.459]

The risks involved are those related to human exposure to prompt radiation due to the circulation or injection of beams, radiation generated by radiofrequency cavities used for accelerating beams, induced or remnant radiation in equipment or in the air. [Pg.460]

The SIL required to reduce each identified risk is equally defined at this stage. [Pg.460]

For example, for the LHC, the risk linked to prompt radiation exposure resulting from the circulation of beams is assessed at SIL 3 in the tunnel where the beams circulate and SIL 2 in adjacent areas called service zones. [Pg.460]

Several approaches for risk evaluation exist, within the most famous ones we can mention, preliminary risk analysis (PRA), hazard and operability study (RKZOP), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA),... [Pg.1240]
