Practical Determination of the Damaged Layer

Optical methods such as x-ray specular reflectivity and specular ellip-sometry give very similar thicknesses to the etching method [24]. This validates to a certain extent the just described procedure, which is much easier to use. 

A not well-defined layer, which probably exists on the outcropping metal lines, may also have to be removed.
