The f potential of silver iodide can be varied over the range 75 mV, by varying the Ag or 1 concentration again demonstrating that varying the concentration of potential-determining ions can reverse the sign of the f potential. 

when titrating iodide with silver nitrate, coagulation occurs as soon as a slight excess of silver ion has been added (so that a point of zero charge has been surpassed). 

These effects can be illustrated more quantitatively. The drop in the magnitude of the potential of mica with increasing salt is illustrated in Fig. V-7 here yp is reduced in the immobile layer by ion adsorption and specific ion effects are evident. In Fig. V-8, the pH is potential determining and alters the electrophoretic mobility. Carbon blacks are industrially important materials having various acid-base surface impurities depending on their source and heat treatment. 

Relaxations in the double layers between two interacting particles can retard aggregation rates and cause them to be independent of particle size [101-103]. Discrepancies between theoretical predictions and experimental observations of heterocoagulation between polymer latices, silica particles, and ceria particles [104] have promptetl Mati-jevic and co-workers to propose that the charge on these particles may not be uniformly distributed over the surface [105, 106]. Similar behavior has been seen in the heterocoagulation of cationic and anionic polymer latices [107].
