In 1880 a booklet entitled La hi periodique—de M. Mendelejeff en ce qui concerne le prohleme de I unite de la mathre et la theorie de I atomicite was published. The author was a certain D. Agostinho de Sousa, presented as a student from Porto Polytechnic Academy. [Pg.245]

According to the first edition, we know that the textbook was intended to prepare the students taking the chemistry course at the Polytechnic Academy (Porto) and that it was written in a simple way, so that they could more easily learn the basics of this wonderful science.
