Cachia and his team (P) describe the column chromatographic separation of polyvinyl chloride plasticizers. The plasticization agent in the eluate was identified by infrared spectroscopy. These authors expressly state that chromatography is useful for separations only it is not intended to identify substances. However, they mention that spectroscopy, in the future, may be replaced by combining refractive index data with color tests. [Pg.105]

Example 5.1 Thermal Degradation Characterization Thermal degradation is characterized by two temperature-dependent parameters, the induction time 6 (7) for the onset of degradation, as shown in Fig. E5.1(a) for unplasticized Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and the rate of degradation. The latter is shown in Fig. E5.1(b) in terms of the rate of change of the consistency index of the Power Law parameter, as a function of time and temperature, and can be expressed by the following equations ... [Pg.180]

A modem, very fast separation is described by Sreenivasan [42] for the determination of Hatcol 200. This is a newly-introduced, less toxic plasticizer (tris(2-ethylhexyl)trimellitate) for polyvinyl chloride, used in the fabrication of disposable medical devices. A single 100-A ju-Styragel column was used with tetrahydrofuran with either UV or refractive index detector. Figure 6.17 shows a separation of Hatcol 200 from other candidate plasticizers for this... [Pg.158]
