Sodium polystyrene sulfonate [NE] Binds antacid cation in gut, resulting in metabolic alkalosis. [Pg.1383]

Cation-containing antacids and laxatives (for example magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate) can reduce the effect of polystyrene sulfonate and metabolic acidosis can develop. This has been reported in both children (9,10) and adults. [Pg.2895]

The concurrent use of antacids with sodium polystyrene sulfonate can result in metabolic alkalosis. Use with aluminium hydroxide has resulted in intestinal obstruction. [Pg.1279]
