Polypyrrole metal-porphyrin

It is also possible to improve the ion-exchange properties of polypyrrole by its functionalization with alkyl ammonium. In the polymer obtained, it is then easy to incorporate, simply by ion exchange, species such as metallic porphyrins [91,92] or heteropolyanions [93]. Heteropolyanions can also be incorporated into polyaniline [86], polybutyl-thiophene layer [94], or polyamino-naphtol [95]. 

Transition metal compounds, such as organic macrocycles, are known to be good electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction. Furthermore, they are inactive for alcohol oxidation. Different phthalocyanines and porphyrins of iron and cobalt were thus dispersed in an electron-conducting polymer (polyaniline, polypyrrole) acting as a conducting matrix, either in the form of a tetrasulfonated counter anion or linked to... 

Structurally uniform polymeric porphyrins are expected if terephthalaldehyde is reacted with pyrrole in boiling propionic acid. Polymers from this reaction have been described [53], The authors cleaned the product from polypyrrole and low molecular weight porphyrins by washing with methanol and chloroform, and introduced different metal ions by treatment with metal salts in an ethanol/water mixture. But the polymers which exhibited specific conductivities of 10 S cm (up to 10 S cm by doping with I2) were analyzed only by IR-spectra. 

ECPs including coordination complexes are also able to show electrocatalytic properties e.g., toward the oxidation of nitric oxide in the case of porphyrin functionalized polypyrroles containing various metallic centres [275], for the oxygen or hydrogen peroxide reduction in the case of cobalt-salen PEDOT [276] or iron-containing polysalen [245], or for oxidation of ascorbic acid in the case of osmium bipyridyl functionalized PPy [277].
