Polypropylene durability test

Fabrics should be tested after a defined wash or durability test which, in the case of Part 7, for fabrics treated with a flame retardant, is a single specified wash cycle. Only so-called durable flame retardant finishes as described in Chapter 8 will pass such a wash cycle since semi-durable treatments are usually only resistant to dry cleaning or simple water soak tests specified in BS 5651 1989, for example. Fabrics containing inherently flame retardant fibres such as Hi-modified polyester (e.g. Trevira CS ), polyacrylics (e.g. modacryUcs such as Kanekaron ), and polypropylene do not require a prewash treatment prior to testing. [Pg.349]

It is evident in Figures 30.18 and 30.19 that, after the accelerated adhesion test, the primer-coated air LPCAT treated TPOs showed poor adhesion performance as compared to argon and methane LPCAT-treated TPOs. This is a clear indication that air-plasma treatment can achieve the paintable surface but cannot provide the treated surface that can be painted in a durable manner. The poor durability can be attributed to (1) the water-sensitive nature of adhesion and (2) the excessive degradation of polypropylene that causes weaker boundary layer. [Pg.644]

The second part of this study [92] considered this peculiar point that has considerable consequences in terms of fundamental aspects of both the photooxidation of nanocomposites and the durability of these materials. A special attention was given to the interactions between the antioxidant, the clay (montmorillonite), and the compatibilizing agent (maleic anhydride), in terms of influence of each component on the rate of oxidation of the polymeric matrix. Two kinds of stabilizers were tested a phenolic antioxidant (Scheme 15.14) generally used to process polypropylene and a redox antioxidant of the hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) class (Scheme 15.15) that is used as long-term stabilizer for polypropylene. [Pg.591]
