Polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate

The stability characteristics of two different antiperspirant lotion systems were compared. Sample 1 represented an aqueous emulsion containing an aluminum salt. The internal phase consisted of stearyl alcohol and ethylene oxide reaction products, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate and polyoxyethylene sorbitan tristearate. Methylcellulose was used as a stabilizer and bodying agent. Sample 2 represented a dispersion of magnesium aluminum silicate in an aqueous system containing aluminum ions. Because of its com-... [Pg.88]

Phenolic foam formulations consisted of the following components, in parts by weight resol, 100 sulfuric acid (49%), 10 phosphoric acid, 12.5 l,l,2-trichloro-l,2,2-trifluoromethane (R113, blowing agent), 5 polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate (surfactant), 0.6. [Pg.281]

The optimum HLB number for forming an emulsion depends to some extent on the nature of the particular system. Suppose that 20 per cent sorbitan tristearate (HLB 2.1) plus 80 per cent polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate (HLB 14.9) is the optimum composition of a mixture of these emulsifiers for preparing a particular O/W emulsion. The HLB of the mixture is, therefore, (0.2 x 2.1) + (0.8 x 14.9) — 12.3. The theory is that an HLB of 12.3 should be optimum for the... [Pg.267]

Experimentally, anti-oxidants such as gallic acid, ethyl gallate, oat flour (Findlay and Smith, 1945), sorbitan monostearate, glycerol monostearate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate (Hibbs and Ashworth, 1951), ascorbyl palmitate, dodecyl gallate (Abbot, 1971), high-oryzanol rice bran oil - containing tocopherols and tocotrienols (Nanua et al, 2000), nordihy-droguaiaretic acid, butylated hydroxyanisol, butylated hydroxy toluene and citric acid (Helal et al., 1976) have been used to enhance the oxidative stability of milk powders. [Pg.460]

For shaving products, creams, foams, lotions, etc. are commonly used. The most frequently used ingredients in shaving products are fatty acids (e.g. stearic acid), surfactants (e.g. triethanolamine), emulsifiers (e.g. lanolin, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate), solvents and emollients (e.g. glycerin and other alcohols). [Pg.330]
