HydroxyethyUiydrazine (11) is a plant growth regulator. It is also used to make a coccidiostat, furazoHdone, and has been proposed, as has (14), as a stabilizer in the polymerization of acrylonitrile (72,73). With excess epoxide, polysubstitution occurs and polyol chains can form to give poly(hydroxyaLkyl) hydrazines which have been patented for the preparation of cellular polyurethanes (74) and as corrosion inhibitors for hydrauHc fluids (qv) (75). DialkyUiydrazines, R2NNH2, and alkylene oxides form the very reactive amineimines (15) which react further with esters to yield aminimides (16) ... [Pg.278]

The monomeric 2-(l-naphthylacetyl)ethyl acrylate was synthesized by esterification of 1-naphthylacetic acid (NAA) and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and then polymerized to obtain the polymer which is potentially useful as a plant growth regulator through hydrolytic release of NAA. Copolymers with hydrophilic comonomers were also prepared by solution polymerization and the influence of their microstructure on the behavior of controlled release was investigated (Scheme 3.15) [149]. [Pg.158]

Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is an extracellular plant enzyme that acts in regulation of cell growth and differentiation, polymerization of cell wall components, and the oxidation of secondary metabolites essential for important pathogenic defense reactions. Because of these essential functions, and also because of its stability and ready availability, HRP has attracted considerable attention.13 It has been involved in a number of applications, such as diagnostic assays,14 biosensors,15 bioremediation,16 polymer synthesis,17 and other biotechnological processes.18 More applications in which HRP catalysis is translated into an electrochemical signal are likely to be developed in the near future. [Pg.311]
