Polymer-bound reagents soluble

In active supports, the substrate attached to the insoluble polymer effects a synthetic or a catalytic transformation on a soluble substrate. Thus, this group includes the polymer-bound reagents 13 15), in which the active site is consumed during the course of the reaction, and the polymer-bound catalysts 9), in which the active site on the heterogeneous matrix effects catalytic transformations on a soluble substrate. 

In summary, polymer-bound reagents for nucleophilic, electrophilic and radical reactions can in many instances be seen as more practical alternatives to the corresponding reaction using soluble reagents, facilitating removal of by-products in... 

The latter reacts with the amino component with liberation of the polymer and the protected peptide derivative, without formation of soluble byproducts. While linear, soluble polymers have seen scattered use in many reactions and have achieved some recognition in certain instances such as peptide synthesis, the use of soluble polymer-bound reagents and catalysts is a promising area which merits further study. While a homogeneous reagent such as a soluble macro-molecular reagent cannot always be used in a continuous process.
