Polyimide blends, synthesis

The earlier sections of this review have attempted to review the synthesis and characterization of the segmented copolymer materials as well as to highlight fundamental efforts related to a number of structure-property relationships. Polyimide-siloxane copolymers are high performance materials that have been driven by applications frequently identified with aerospace. However, this section will also include surface phenomena which are critical for certain electronic applications and high performance blends utilizing imide-siloxane copolymers.

Apart from the work done under participation of the author of this study reported above, only a few papers have been published dealing with the synthesis and characterization of acid-base blend membranes. One of these publications is an article of lizuka et al. who described the synthesis of novel sulfonated random or block co-polyimides (blockSPI, SlOa, randomSPI, SlOb, Fig. 4.5) [69] and their use as acidic blend components... 

The most frequently used is TGA at constant temperature or heating rate of = 5-20°C/min in vacuum, air or inert gas. " The degradation process has been described taking into account the reactions (i) initiation by random chain scission, (ii) depropagation, and (iii) chain termination."
