There are several examples where catalytic active membranes have been developed with immobilized enzymes on a porous ceramic support (Belleville et al, 2001 Lozano et al, 2002). Research on Candida antarctica lipase immobilization has further improved the preparation of active membranes. Another hydrophilic and water-soluble polymer, polyethyleneimine (PEI), which has a high content of free primary aminos as a coating agent, allows for an increase in the number of potential centres for enzymatic attachment (Rios et ah, 2004).
