Polydimethylsiloxane-Hydrophobed Silica Antifoam as Source of Emboli

3 Polydimethylsiloxane-Hydrophobed Silica Antifoam as Source of Emboli [Pg.537]

An early warning of possible problems arising from the use of PDMS-hydrophobed silica as an antifoam in this context was made by Cassie et al. [5] who subjected dogs to cardiopulmonary bypass using a bubble oxygenator that did not [Pg.537]

Orenstein et al. [3] showed that there was evidence of antifoam drops on both the venous and arterial sides of the circulatory system, which implied continuous circulation. They also state that the clinical significance of microemboli formed by the PDMS-hydrophobed silica used in their study had not been fully established.  [Pg.538]
