Organochlorine pesticides have been used in Croatia since the end of the second world war. In recent years their use has been considerably restricted but have never been banned in Croatia. During the course of industrialization chlorophenols and polychlorinated biphenyls have also emerged as organochlorine contantinants, resulting in further contamination of the biosphere by polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans.
