Polycarbonate deuterated

Deuterated liposomes were prepared from a dried lipid film cast from a chloroform solution of deuterated l,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSPC-dyo Avanti Polar Lipids, Inc., Alabaster, AL, USA Figure 5.11b) [37, 38]. This film was hydrated and vortexed with HEPES-buffered saline (HBS), pH 7.4, at a DSPC concentration of 1.6mM. The internuclear distances employed are 1.095 A for the phenyl C-H distance, 1.125 A for the formal C-H distance, 2.4 A foj the 2-3 phenyl proton distance, and 1.75 A for the formal proton - proton distance. The 2-3 phenyl proton distance used here is comparable to the distance of 2.41 A used in the polycarbonate interpretations. The choice of 2.4 A is based on the phenyl proton Tj minimum and the slightly smaller value is confirmed by a larger Pake doublet splitting observed in the solid state spectrum of the phenyl protons in the partially deuterated analogue (10). 

Surface-directed spinodal decomposition was first observed in an isotopic polymer blend (Jones et al. 1991) thin films of a mixture of poly(ethylene-propylene) and its deuterated analogue were annealed below the upper critical solution temperature and the depth profiles measured using forward recoil spectrometry, to reveal oscillatory profiles similar to those sketched in figure 5.30. Similar results have now been obtained for a number of other polymer blends, including polystyrene with partially brominated polyst)u-ene (Bruder and Brenn 1992), polystyrene with poly(a-methyl styrene) (Geoghegan et al. 1995) and polystyrene with tetramethylbisphenol-A polycarbonate (Kim et al. 1994), suggesting that the phenomenon is rather general. 

A possible classification of POF can be based on the principal core material. The principal types of POF are fibres with PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) core, fibres with PS (polystyrene) core, fibres with PC (polycarbonate) core and fibres with deuterated core. ... 

One may even advance one step further and calculate structure factors of specific chains numerically, for a comparison with the results of scattering experiments. Figure 2.23 presents, as an example, neutron scattering data of polycarbonate obtained for mixtures of deuterated and protonated species. The experiment covers a large range of g s, and results are represented in the form of a Kratky plot.
