Polycaprolactone Thermal properties

For example, incorporation of 10-20 % polycaprolactone (PCL) in a vinyl ester thermosetting matrix significantly improved the fracture toughness and impact properties while retaining stiffness and thermal properties (Ollier et al. 2012). The interaction between PCL and vinyl ester was strong enough to prevent phase separation as indicated by SEM of the cured blend.

Eco-friendly biodegradable polymers and biocomposites are relatively novel materials that can contribute to reduce the dependence on fossil sources. Because of their renewable nature and biodegradability, environmentally benign composite materials with properties comparable to those of some widely used commodities can be produced. Py-GC/MS has developed as a useful tool for the study of thermal degradation of such polymers and composites, and many studies have recently been published for biodegradable polymers, such as polycaprolactone (PCL), polyhydroxyalcanoates (PHAs) and their copolymers,poly(lactic acid) (PLA), and carbohydrates, including starch and cellulose. 

Details are given of the physicochemical properties and in vitro resistance to encrustation of films of polycaprolactone or blends of polycaprolactone with a polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine mixture. Films were characterised in terms of tensile properties, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, dynamic contact angle, and SEM. 29 refs.
